F.A.Q. for USB Storage Devices
1. Does your software hard drive Upgrader/Clone-n-Recover works with USB/IDE external drive products?
2. I have a 10 GB hard drive, when I connected USB-EXT3, how come I read on screen only 8GB?
3. Regarding your USB/IDE products, will the host machine see it right away (hot swap style) or do I have to load software/drivers on every machine I wish to attach it to?
4. Can drives (in the USB/IDE case ) be partitioned into logical drives?
5. Are both FAT16 and FAT32 supported?
6. I have several old smaller HDDs laying around, is it easy to swap drives in and out of the 3 1/2 case?
7. What's the dimensions of your USB 3.5" drive model?
8. Do your USB/IDE products work in Win95 B and Win95 C?
9. My question is whether I can put your intelligent USB peripheral adapter from parallel port on my external drive case to USB connector on the rear panel of my notebook? Do I need some extra program for recognizing my external CD writer with that combination?
A. Yes, but our software (Upgrader & Clone-n-Recover) typically runs from a clean environment (i.e., DOS) without multitasking & locking, etc. This is to ensure the target drive is not out of sync with the source drive. On the other hand, our USB/IDE hard drive can only be recognized when running Win98. There is no DOS driver to recognize the USB/IDE hard drive.
What we found is that if we boot up the system to Win98 and then run Upgrader or Clone-n-Recover from the Command prompt window, we can still copy the internal hard drive to the USB/IDE hard drive. We then shut down the Window (here, more files are updated on the internal drive but not reflected on the USB drive), install the USB hard drive as internal and reboot. It would complain about system not being shut down previously and SCANDISK is performed. But after that, it seems to work properly.

Q:I have a 10 GB hard drive, when I connected USB-EXT3, how come I read on screen only 8GB?A: Yes, you need to download updated driver, or if that still not help, remove hard drive from USB box and install it as an internal drive. Partition the drive with FDISK (or similar) and put it back in USB box. Once USB driver recognizes the hard drive, format it and you should have the full capacity.
4Q:Can drivers (in the USB/IDE case)be partitioned into logical drives?
A: Yes, just boot up to Win 98 and run FDISK. For hard drive capacity lager than 8 GB, this method may not give you correct capacity initially, instead FDISK the hard drive as an internal drive (outside of USB) first, then put the drive back to USB box, boot up to Win98 and format it there.5Q:Are both External USB/IDE drives FAT16 and FAT32 supported?
A: Yes.
6Q:I have several old smaller HDDs laying around, is it easy to swap drives in and out of the 3 1/2 case?
A: Yes, once the top cover is removed, you have easy access to the drive. Alternatively, get a 5.25 case and install removable hard drive kit on it, you can not only access to hard drive, but CD-Rom/CD-RW drives also.
7Q:
What's the dimension of your USB 3.5" drive model?A: W (130mm) x D (210mm) x H (45mm)
8Q:
Do your USB/IDE products work in Win95 B and Win95 C?A: No, it
requires Win 98 or higher.
A: Our USB products are designed for connecting IDE/ATAPI devices (HD, CD-ROM, CD-RW, etc.) to the USB port on a Windows 98 (not Win 95) system. It does not work with parallel port.

A: There is no limit to put 80 GB HDD.
Our Firewire enclosure
typically gets its power directly
from the Firewire port on the computer. However, we also
provide a USB power connector (comes with the unit) that
allows the unit to be powered from a USB port on the
computer when the Firewire port does not provide the power
as maybe in your case.
So if your laptop has USB port that can provide power to the
external device, the Firewire unit should work for you
